August Beauty Favourites, press samples marked with asterisks.
Better late than rushed! For my August beauty favourites, I imposed a 5-product limit. I had quite a few occasions to look fancy this month, which isn’t typical for me at all. The scramble to get dolled up on the reg saw some brilliant beauty bits cement their stay in my good books.
As always, I’ve kept things short and sweet here, but all full reviews are linked at the end of each product’s paragraph.
L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying Primer, €11.99*
This really proved its worth in August. I was going to a wedding, and doing makeup for the gals in my house. That meant my face had to be finished hours before we even left the house.
Even still, my makeup was in place at 4 in the morning. Amazing achievement in itself, but you’ve also got to appreciate how much I wrecked it on the dance floor. I did my version of the running man, which is actually just running. I got dipped, I got twirled and I created a billion big fish, little fish and cardboard boxes. Top marks for staying power, even in the face of rave sweat.
In terms of everyday performance, it is very smoothing. I have some texture issues, and foundation can highlight that. This takes the edge off, creating an even base that makeup glides over. It’s my favourite primer, never mind just this month.

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture, €15.99
Another post on this, I know! Still, you’ve got to give it to me for repressing my fickle nature, even if it is just when it comes to mascara.
L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture provides great lift, separation and curl. Plus, that boost in height doesn’t drop throughout the day. Maybe they mixed some Elnett into the mix. I dunno, but I wouldn’t be surprised – its hold is incredible.
There’s no flaking or smudging, which brings me to the only drawback. This is tricky to remove. Use a dedicated eye-makeup remover and you’ll be find, but don’t expect a balm or oil to lift it off with much ease.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Sexy Sienna, €30
If you were following me on Snapchat (I’m at lorrainehaigney) when I was trying to buy this, you’ll appreciate that this lippy and I didn’t start out on the good terms. Anyway, after settling up with the store and finally brining it home, I’m enamoured.
If you’re a fan of matte lipsticks, you’ll probably be familiar with their pitfalls. They can make your lips shrivel and your mouth look mean. Now, keep those points in mind but flip them.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Sexy Sienna makes my lips look more full. Don’t ask me how, because I’ll just scream WITCHCRAFT until the men in white coats come. It also feels very comfortable, rich and almost like a cream. I don’t have to top up my lip balm through the day. Wear time is excellent too. When it does start to fade, it does so evenly. I’m dead set on buying more shades in the range.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, €10.49*
This launches today, September 7th! I got mine early in August and have been loving it. It’s very creamy, so sits comfortably, and has a radiant, dewy finish. That suits me down to the ground in winter, when it’s harder to keep skin soft and glowing.
Shade wise, it could be better. I’m too pale for most foundation ranges, even at the pricer end of the scale, so it’s no surprise that this is a little bit dark on my skin. I’d say one step lighter and I’d be set.
All in all, it’s easy to wear has has an ultra beautifying finish. I’m mad impressed with it!

Botantics Radiance Balm, €7.99
Everyone’s new favourite. I put this under my eyes and on my cheekbones before foundation. It creates serious glow and adds shape – perfect if carved out contour lines aren’t your thing.
For a heavier dose of shimmer, you can pat it over foundation. If you’re going all out, mix it in with your base. I only recommend doing all three methods at the same time if your life depends on looking like a disco ball. Used sparingly, it creates light and radiance that looks like it couldn’t be bottled. Gorgeous stuff, and cheap as chips.

That’s it for this month! What were you loving in the last days of summer?

Great picks! I have to try that L’oreal primer since I love the foundation from the same line. I also had one of CT matte revolution lipsticks in my favorites but I got the shade in 1975 Red 🙂

Oooh yeah, I’ve been eyeing that one up! I really like Walk of Shame but I am so put off by its name.

Argh, I love that Botanics balm! I stuck it in a drawer recently though and haven’t used it, must dig it out. I’m sold on the primer – been looking for a new one for my trip so I will literally be buying it today – ta!
