I’m all over mascara launches like Joop on a fella at his first disco. I’ve got masses of curls on my head, but am stuck with straight lashes of average length and thickness, so the hunt for full-on mascara never ends. Bourjois has permanently inked itself into my good books with its recent launches, so I had hopes to high heaven for Volume Twist Mascara, €13.99.
The selling point is the size-shifting wand. A twist of the cap pushes the short, thick brush into a longer and thicker shape. I usually do some crap-lashed eye rolling at mascara innovations like this. Remember the vibrating craze? This lady does. Sadly, that beaut of a video is the only good thing that came out of that fad.
This, on the other hand, is a very clever trick. Longer brushes are great for coating every lash and adding length, while short, thick brushes do a great job of adding thickness and volume. I use one method at a time, opting for both led to clumping.
So, it’s a big Herbal Essence style YES YES YES to the 2-results-in-1 brush. The mascara itself is high impact. When first opened, its consistency is wet and thick. Some will want to leave it to dry out before use, but fans of bold lashes should dive right in. I allow a little more time between coats, because of its thickness, and end up with lashes that are fuller than my own by miles. Check out my bare-eyed shot for reference.
It doesn’t make any claims about being waterproof, but stays free from flaking and can stand up to some wind-induced eye watering. I can get it off in seconds with my Body Shop remover.
Want it? It’s on shelves now.

This looks great, I’m addicted to Le Volume De Chanel at the moment and it’s very wet and thick like this when you first get it, creates great volume though!

I won’t be putting out Chanel bux for some time but will make a note!

This mascara looks well and good, typical gorgeous photo of you. But what caught my attention most was THAT VIDEO?????? Hahah where did you find it? 😛
Lorraine Haigney
Hahahahaha, I think it was on Willam’s Beatdown vlog. Isn’t she brilliant?

I actually prefer mascara that isn’t waterproof, as I find that the waterproof kind is just too stubborn to get rid of 🙂
Lorraine Haigney
Urgh, I know! Love not having to use an extra cleanser at night 🙂

I love bourjois mascaras, this looks really good. Trying desperately to find a cheaper alternative to ysl’s effet faux cils at the minute. wah.

NYC have a mascara that is a 100% dupe only it’s nowhere near as black. Such a shame!
Belle Morte
That looks great on you. I’m still giggling away to myself at the “short n thick” and “long n thin” – I doubt I’ll ever be able to look at mascara wand in quite the same way again!
Lorraine Haigney
Hahaha, I was waiting for somebody to pick up on that! 🙂

Looks interesting. Will have to check it out next time I go abroad 😉
