I’m having a positive-post spree, aren’t I? I haven’t gone soft – there’s a dud list coming up very soon, but I’m playing the role of hype man again today.
Until a few years ago, blotting paper wasn’t on my radar. I’d heard of it, but it seemed out-dated and a little bit stuffy. At the behest of a friend, I tried a sheet. Bells chimed, cherubs descended.
I was lucky, in that my initiation was with Boots Skin Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets. These take off oil like any decent blotting paper, but the also impart a tiny bit of powder. So, the oil that was there is removed, and oil that might rise up is inhibited.
The powder, while it does have some cheap bulking agents, contains salicylic acid, a grand fella altogether for keeping skin clear. As with all products containing this acid, those who are up the duff will have to run this by their doctors before use. For not-preggo me, it’s great.
So, if you’re gonna blot, this is my pick. I’ve tried others, but they’re not half as effective. Don’t be tempted by the Penneys/Primark ones in the pretty pink packaging. They are useless.
If you’re not convinced yet, I’ve made a list to win you round.
1. It’s €4.99. You wouldn’t get a Happy Meal for that.
2. It takes away shine without adding extra product. No risk of cake face.
3. You don’t need a mirror, brush, or skill. Pat, pat, pat, done.
4. You’ll go throw less of your spendy powder.
5. It’s fifty-billion times more portable than any powder compact. No risk of smashing, and it’s tiny.
6. Bonus use – I find it really effective for prepping my eyes before shadow, no primer required.
7. Bonus bonus use – setting matte lipstick, or mattifying creamy ones.
8. Geddit.
That’s my pitch? Are you sold, or do you already swear by ’em?

I don’t think I’ve ever needed anything like this as I’m not that oily, phew, but they do seem a bit outdated, I can’t remember ever seeing them reviewed before!

Needless to say, I’m curious. I’ve also been looking at blotting paper in a negative light and viewing them as stuffy, so this has come as a bit of a surprise! The price is great, that’s for sure, and I’m working on my skincare in general so perhaps I’ll look into these 🙂

I haven’t used blotting paper since my teens when it was all the rage. It used to leave an awful powdery trail… This sounds pretty good though. Pity the packaging is so dull and functional – not even a sweet case to carry then in!

Oh yeah, the card does get a bit tatty. I think Paul & Joe sell compacts to store the sheets, but I’m not looking to splurge!

Essence had some out a while ago (probably about three years in fairness) that I used for a while but forgot about, never thought of using them for lips!

I use the Penneys ones for blotting my lips, but only to use ’em up. I don’t think they do a thing for skin!
