Celebrity Creep – Bases Edition! Beyoncé, Emma Stone and Perrie Edwards

Lorraine_Haigney 22nd July 2015

This is part two of Celebrity Creep, the series where I spend too much time reading about celebrities and cosmetics online, then justify it by relaying my findings to you lot.

Beyoncé Looks Grand Anyway, Not Sure Why I Bothered

I was shocked at the lack of makeup in Bey’s makeup routine. Every artist interviewed was stingy with products. Apparently, her skin is too perfect to cover with foundation, her lashes are long enough to skip fake ones, and she’s been rated by scientists as a better human being than all of us. (One of those three things is maybe untrue. For now.)

In terms of foundation, you’ll want to use Créme de Feck All.  Her makeup artists use only Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer where it’s needed, then blends it in with a wet sponge. After powder, Bey herself says she uses facial mist to make her skin look bare. MAC Fix+ is a favourite, but she says she’s not fussy. I suppose, when you exercise total control on every aspect of your public image, to a point where your sister beating your husband in an elevator gets written off, you’ve got to let go of the small stuff. Any mist, just plenty of it.

Emma Stone’s Glowy Base for Dry Skin

I found out things I didn’t want to know during this creeping session. Emma Stone scrubs her skin with (brace yourself) brown sugar or baking soda. BAKING. SODA. Skip that step – it’s bonkers, and I can’t believe her makeup artist hasn’t bolted the kitchen cupboards in the Stone household shut. No brown sugar. No baking soda.

Anyway, despite scratching the face off herself with half the ingredients of a scone, her skin is still beautiful. Always really natural with lots of glow.

Here, the technique is as important as the products used. Mix your foundation with your liquid hightlighter, then apply it with a damp sponge. You can saturate it with tap water, but Emma’s makeup artist uses a hydrating facial mist.

If you’re a true wannabe, Chanel’s Perfection Lumière Velvet is the base Emma and her makeup artists wax lyrical about the most.

Perrie Edwards’ Natural Base

Perrie’s routine is the most consistent. Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Foundation and MAC Select Cover Up Concealer. Even though I crept with great depth, I couldn’t find much about technique. I did find seventy minutes of dedicated Perrie Edwards compilation videos on Youtube, and yes, it was worth watching.

The Chanel foundation is glowy and the MAC concealer is natural matte, so the end result is balanced and subtle – really important when the rest of your makeup is pretty heavy, like Perrie with her brow and lip combo.

Celebrity Creep part two, done and dusted. The next is in two weeks and I’m thinking of going retro for a challenge.

  1. Orla - Makeup Over Mind

Lorraine, I love this post all too much. It has convinced me that Beyoncé is in fact a robot, and also that I really need to try Vitalimiere Aqua, despite resisting it for so many years!

B’awh, thanks Orla! I tried VLA a few years back and was disappointed. Wasn’t anything special, on me anyway! And the lightest shade was verrrrry dark!

Half the ingredients of a scone

This post depresses me. I want to hear that celebs trowel on their makeup in order to look presentable. It would make me feel better about my life haha

I’d take the advice from Beyoncé’s artist with a pinch of salt. Maybe Emma has some lying around.

Brown sugar and baking soda? That sounds crazy. So harsh on the skin. I’m surprised by that because I’ve heard Emma Stone reads beauty blogs!

I also have a hard time believing that Beyonce has such a low-maintenance makeup routine. But I’m sure she is telling the truth though like when she says she doesn’t photoshop her Instagram photos…

I know! But also, you think somebody would say it to her. Her skin is beaut regardless, the wagon.

LMAO about Beyonce, yea right and I’m the second coming. I do love Vitalumiere Aqua, it’s just too beautiful on the skin.

Completely don’t believe she skips foundation, ever! Unless all their artists were mincing their words and meant that they use concealer like they would a foundation.

I cant decide which is more unbelievable: Beyonce wearing no foundation or someone actually using brown sugar and baking soda on her face?

This post was just too funny, the creme de feck all and the half the ingredients of a scone lines just killed me hahah
Nevertheless, it’s useful to hear a little bit about what the stars are doing with their makeup!
