Dior Diorskin Star Foundation, €48.50 No press samples featured. Disclosure policy here.
I had a chance to try the Dior Diorskin Star Foundation when I was at the launch of the Urban Decay Afterglow Eight Hour Blushes, and I grabbed it with both hands.

You can’t click through blogs for long without hitting on a review of this, and I was surprised to see that lots of people consider its coverage to be medium. It’s light, and while you can build it up, I think an extra layer of this sacrifices more in texture than it adds in tone uniformity.
See, when you apply it lightly, the finish is skin-like, subtle and luminous. Start to pack it on, and you’ll see product sitting on atop your skin, kinda claggy and not even adding very much more coverage than you get with layer one. It’s not worth it. You’ve got to be comfortable letting your skin show through for this one.
It’s sold alongside a €17 sponge, so I’ve been using my own Beauty Blender with it, and I like that method best. Blending was choppy with foundation brushes. I think this foundation really benefits from the slip of a damp sponge. Yep, its thin consistency means you’ll lose product this way, but I’d rather too much seep into a sponge than have too much caked onto my mug.
While the coverage is less than I’m used to, the finish helps a lot. As, mentioned, it’s luminous and very natural. The glow casts a veil over lines, bumps and hollows. If you’ve tried the Clarins Hydraquench Tinted Moisturiser, you’ll spot many similarities. It might not be the base for a paint-by-numbers Instagram look, but it’s thoroughly enhancing.
For a dewy foundation, its longevity is impressive. Actually, I liked it more when I’ve lived in it for a while. It settles nicely and doesn’t separate, flake, or melt off at the first sign of oil. As long as you’re not pumping out sebum like you’re trying to put out a fire, you’ll be grand.
The gist – it’s perfect for those who don’t need much concealing but want to look polished, and its comfy texture plus SPF 30 put it firmly in the great everyday foundations category.

But do I need it Lorraine? Do I NEED it?

Hmm, hmm. I think you’d be a good candidate – you like a brightening base, right? I’d get a sample to make sure you don’t find it too dewy for summer, but I think you’ll like how it looks on 🙂

Lovely post, your skin looks great!
I’ve just posted my favourite outfits from the Met Gala, would love to know what you think:

This foundation literally ticks all my boxes. I’ve just always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Dior bases which makes me stay away from them more often than not. I’ll just have to grab a sample of this one and see if it can win me over!

Yay, hope you get on well with it!

I skipped on this foundation cause I saw a lot of reviews saying that it’s not good for combo to oily skin. I love dewy skin so maybe this would work for me during the colder months. I like the look of it on you though 🙂 your skin looks very healthy.

I really wanna try this! Your review just makes me even more sure that I would like it. Love the natural finish on your skin, I love my light/ medium bases!
Just read your comment on my post, you should try a crop top, I never thought it would work on me,I’m a size 14/16 typical hourglass shape and I was worried it would be too much with my big boobs but I think because it shows off my smallest part, my waist, its actually really flattering. Particularly with a high waisted full skirt, it balances out! Let me know if you decide to go for it!

Eeep, I think I will! Having a look around ASOS and fell in love with two, saved them to my basket and then realised they were both over a hundred quid each. The search resumes.
Thanks for the encouragement, lady 🙂

Ohhh, this sounds right up my alley! Anything that is light and dewy has to be mine! I also like that it has spf30, usually foundations only have spf15-20 so this is pretty high.

Yeah, not too shabby an SPF at all! Can only think of higher ones from just La Roche Posay and Vichy.

My blog post today was about trying to find a dupe for the Dior BB cream and now you are tempting me to buy another one of their bases!
I did have this in my basket on Feel Unique a couple of months ago but had that moment of “Do I really need this?” so I didn’t get it. But it does look gorgeous on you.
Lorraine Haigney
Gonna have a look at your dupe post now, and I’ll let you know what I think in your comment section 🙂

Not into these light coverages, but totally into your writing. You have me smiling while talking about foundation – well done!
Lorraine Haigney
Awwh, thank you! That’s lovely to hear 🙂

foundations are really dodgy on me but I’ve heard so much about this I need to try a sample!
Lorraine Haigney
Am meaning to try some of your fave BB creams, will have a root through your old posts ASAP!

I feel like with most of the newer foundations coming out, none of them seem to work as well with my brushes as they do my beauty blender. Idk if it’s just me and personal preferences, or if it’s just that (as you kinda pointed out) the textures/formulas seem to be a little more thin lately. Either way, I do love me a non-heavy base in the warmer months [=

Hmm, that’s actually a really good point and I totally agree! Never made the connection before, but you’re dead right!

Thank you for this, I had it on the list of to-try-when-need-to-be-frivolous-despite-owning-six-unopened-foundations and I’m wiping it off, I can not be doing with light things that need sponges. I’m no good with a sponge, if I’m shelling out nearly €50 for a foundation I want to see it! Looks fab on you, would not on me x
