Essence Liquid Lipsticks Review + Swatches (Show Off + Make A Statement)

Lorraine_Haigney 9th September 2015

Essence Liquid Lipsticks, Show off & Make A Statement, €3.09. Press samples featured.

I’m not a fan of autumn. I realised that when I was trying to cheer myself up about the change in seasons by listing the best things about this time of year. They were mostly methods of keeping warm, staying cosy or types of food. I swear, the cold weather reduces me to hibernation.

Still, I did land on one redeeming feature of summer’s end; new makeup! Launches are coming in hard and fast at the moment. Today, it’s the Liquid Lipsticks from the Essence AW15 Collection. There are six in the range, and I have two – Show Off and Make A Statement. Cider in the sun, trips away and bright evenings, who needs ya?

You can see straight away that they look more like lipgloss than lipstick. There’s plenty of shine, and their texture is exactly that of traditional lipgloss, minus stickiness. In fact, the pendant in me would be a lot happier if these were classed as long-wearing lipglosses.

In that capacity, they’re bloomin’ wonderful. The impact of a high-shine texture, with the staying power and colour of a solid lipstick – I’m sold. I think these will go down well with those who avoid gloss because of hair-to-mouth catastrophes. You’re a lot less likely to end coating forty quid’s worth of extensions in gloop with these than you are with true gloss.

When they fade, the gloss dries down a lot. What’s left is a very, very subtle colour stain. I think my pal Cindy captured it very well in the swatches in her review. It’s a gradual, even fade. Very nice altogether!

I’ve seen these on stands already, along with the beaut shadow palette that I reviewed last week.

They really look a lot like lip gloss.
