High SPF Foundations – Garnier, Vichy and La Roche Posay

Lorraine_Haigney 18th April 2014

Topping up on SPF can be difficult if you’ve committed to wearing foundation. I’m an SPF addict and favour higher levels of protection, especially because now you can spray a tan on and go without risking cancer.

Foundations that incorporate sun block are the cat’s pyjamas because they cut down on steps in your makeup routine and you can reapply layers without ruining the base.

Top to Bottom – Vichy, La Roche Posay, Garnier

Best for Oily Skin

La Roche Posay Anthelios Compact Cream Foundation SPF 50, €21, is a heavy, full coverage foundation that applies and sets matte. This will stand to serious sun sweat and natural oilness like no other – it’s like beige cement.  It’s a grand fella for travel or chucking in your bag – the compact includes a sponge and mirror, plus its cream formulation means there’s no risk of spillage.

Best for Dry Skin

This is the one. I’m all over it like a child on chocolate once lent ends. Vichy Capital Soleil BB Cream with SPF 50, €16.50, is a very rich, creamy liquid foundation that provides a dewy finish.

The coverage is light, but more substantial than most BB creams I’ve tried – check it out on my mush here.

Those with dry skin will love this. It feels hydrating and adds a healthy glow.

Best for Mature Skin

Garnier Miracle Skin Cream SPF 20, €19.99, is pitched as a treatment foundation for mature skin. It’s very moisturising – a little too much for my young-wan complexion.

The finish is luminous and coverage is light, great for glossing over fine lines without collecting in ’em. I’ve passed it on to d’mother, who has skin that needs more hydration than mine. A great option for early risers who want to whack on SPF and foundation in one go – plus the level 20 protection is perfect for early morning commuting.

This spring, how are you working sun protection into your skin care?

Hi. I have a question. Does la roche it easy to remove??? i have rosacea and dont know if it will take to much to remove it or just with water and your facial cleanser its ok.

The La Roche Posay one is a heavy and does cling, so I’d recommend an oil or balm before you go in with a cleanser. Water and one cleanser might be okay, but might need a bit more scrubbing.
