Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils

Lorraine_Haigney 21st August 2014

I’m all about red lips. Creams and glosses have started to bore me, but mattes still hold buckets of appeal. Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils €6.49 a pop, just launched, and, folks, there’s a red. A true, cool and bold red.

I know mattes are as old as the hills, you don’t see ’em as often as their glossier counterparts. My guess as to why is that, frankly, they can be difficult to deal with. They can dry out lips and start to look flaky. I’m liking these because they’re actually only semi-mattes, so you get most of the look without the moisture-sucking.

The ‘intense’ claim of Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils is bang on. They’re totally opaque and won’t budge. I went to bed with one on and woke up with it still entirely in place. I ate my breakfast and it was still there, only fading a bit when I bit into my toast, scaring the holy ghost out of me when it left a trace of bright coral on the bread.

I can’t find the specific post, but I know I’ve said before that I love cosmetic pencils. Even slap-dash application looks altogether grand, and slap-dash about the standard of my skills. These are so handy so scribble on and pull together an otherwise dull face.

The four that were sent to me are swatched above. Top to bottom, we’ve got 150 Fuchsia Desire, 310 Very Berry, 420 In With Coral (love love love this) and the red that I’m wearing in the first shot, 520 Light It Up.

There are six more, so ten in total, and the titles I’ve got for those are Keep it Classy, Fab Orange, Red Essential and Nude Perfection, leaving two mystery ones that I’ll have to check in the shops.

You’re gonna have to make sure you’ve got a pencil sharpener that can fit these thicker nib. I suggest hitting up a book shop instead of spending extra eurobux on a cosmetic one, but it’s a small price to pay for great quality lippies that are as cheap as they come. Like, €6.49, lads. Sure you won’t get a bag of popcorn and coke for that.

I love ’em all, but the red and coral are my picks. What’s your favourite shade?

That’s gorgeous on you – it’s my fave too, so far, and not just cos it’s near identical to NARS Cruella but almost a fifth of the price! can’t wait to check out the orange one and Red Essential.
