I’m a massive fan of butter. No proper sandwhich fillings? More butter. Cooking something and it’s not coming together? More butter. Butter? More butter.
So, when NYX Butterglosses starting popping up online, I knew I’d have to try ’em. Mattes have their place in my heart, but I like something creamy for daily wear.
Put your mind at rest, they don’t smell like margarine. They’ve got a pleasant scent. It’s kinda like fruit, but more like fruit-scented chewy sweets. It’s mild, so shouldn’t get up your nose or linger too long after application.
Longevity is gloss-typical. If you eat or drink, it’s gone with the wind. Untouched, I’d give it a couple hours before you need to reapply. Nothing incredible, but don’t turn up on glossy street looking for the house of great wear time. It’s not gonna happen.
The texture is a cut above lots of chemist glosses. It’s light and creamy, really soft and comfortable. Yep, it’s a little sticky too, but it wouldn’t be the first thing you’d notice.
NYX Buttergloss in Cherry Pie
The only true red in the pink-heavy range. This was the most opaque of the three that I tried, and applied best – no streaking or collecting in lines. Tops!
NYX Buttergloss in Peach Cobbler
Coral! My guy! This one is less orange than others in my collection, so is more flattering against imperfect teeth.
I feel like a little bit of its vibrancy is lost when you apply it over bare lips. When applied over lipstick or liner, it really packs a punch.
NYX Buttergloss in Éclair
I’ve swatched this on bare lips so you can get a look at its true colour, but I’d never wear it alone by choice. Milky pink glosses can look streaky without a base, and Éclair doesn’t buck the trend.
If the shade catches your eye, go forth and pair it with something like MAC Snob lipstick – that’ll get rid of the patchy problem. It’s a pretty colour, so it’s worth going the extra mile.

Overall, I really like ’em. If you’re a gloss fan, these will slot into your collection nicely without breaking the bank.

I love butter, too. German Pretzels (the big, soft ones) and butter are my favorite guilty pleasure.
And I like the names of these glosses.

I’ve never had a German pretzel! I might be in Berlin this summer, gonna hunt one down. They sound delicious!

I’d be sold on the butter in the title too .. but could see a whole lot of hair-sticking-to-my-lips scenarios with these. Strictly for application at your destination I’d imagine! Look lovely on X

I love these, they’re brilliant quality. I do wish some of them were actually the shade they are in the tube but they’re still lovely!

Oh yeah, but I hope the INTENSE Buttergloss range will be more of that kinda thing. Because, y’know, INTENSE!

Eclair is one of my favorite shades, it has a permanent home in my bag 🙂

Good to hear! I have a few on rotation – I’m very fickle!

NYX Butter Gloss is the only gloss that I like and I have so many of them. LOL! Peach Cobbler is definitely on of my favourite and I recently have been wearing more lip gloss because my hair is short now so no more long hair getting stuck on my lips.
