I had my second appointment with the dentist in as many weeks. The only way I could put one foot in front of the other and get to the surgery was by allowing myself a trip to the chemist right after. Sure, drill into my jaw, I’ll get a lipstick straight after, be grand.
NYX Matte Lipstick in Hippie Chic Swatch
I won’t spend long cautioning that isn’t probably isn’t one for the office. It’s bold, bright and fully opaque. My skin very fair, so the contrast doesn’t look too extreme, but this could look stark on deeper skin tones.
If you’re on board with its show-off shade, get it in your basket, stat. The formulation is more of a satin, velvety cream than a matte. You lose a bit of the retro look, but it feels much more comfortable and won’t crack through the day.

Again, I went for this because of its off-beat shade. Yeah, it’s a red, but it’s kinda rusty and not too similar to the others in my red lipstick collection.
The formulation is the same. Even over a matte liner, this still looks more like a MAC Satin finish lipstick than a traditional, flat matte. Once you’re aware of that before you buy, you shouldn’t be disappointed. I’ve worn this almost every day since I bought it.

The verdict? These are lovely, especially when you consider the budget price point. I say get ’em. If you’re looking for a stockist near your, keep your eyes peeled for a post next week. Strawberry Daiquiri is beautiful but the first shade would be a little too much for my medium skin tone. I have many NYX products however, never tried the matte lipsticks. I’ll be picking up a couple to try after this.

Strawberry Daiquiri is lovely, but a totally different shade to what I thought it would be in my head! I don’t think I could pull off either of these two colours but I have a couple of the mattes and like them a lot. Audrey and Thalia are lovely! The liquid matte creams are amazing too.

I haven’t tried NYX before as I’ve never seen it in stores. I’ve been looking for a new matte lip range recently as I wasn’t really impressed with Sleek’s matte liquid lipsticks – I found them really drying and emphasised all the cracks in my lips.
