Winter is the worst time of year for my skin. Cold weather, bouts of the common cold and central heating usually have me struggling to keep up with moisturiser and serums. I was in the middle of a particularly bad dose of said sniffles when I got my first bottle of Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel and it gave me such a boost. Three years on, I’m still hooked.

My skin was blotchy, sore and flaking. No fun, but perfect for putting a new cleanser through its paces.

It was immediate love. It’s a thick, balmy gel that emulsifies into a milky liquid. The feeling of it melting into my skin was enough to win me over – it’s so soothing, and really feels like it’s plumping up my skin.

I take off the residue, as there’s always a residue with cleansers this balmy, with a wet cloth and am left with properly soft skin – no excess of moisture, no tightness, just comfortable, balanced smoothness.

In the early days, I was worried that it might lean too far towards hydration and lack cleansing properties, but my skin hasn’t gotten congested or broken out at all. See, the emollients and rich texture are balanced by effective cleansing agents and chemical exfoliants (see full ingredients here).

While its richness is serving me well in winter, I’ll still get on well with it through the rest of the year by switching my soft cloth for a slightly more abrasive muslin one. That’s a year-round option for oiler skins too – I believe the lovely Sunday Girl, who has oily to combination skin, is as much of a fan as I am.

I’m almost finished with my Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel buddy, and there hasn’t been a moment that I’ve not enjoyed using it or marvelled at its effects. I know €35 isn’t pocket change, but this has really proved its worth – it’s got my skin in the best condition I think it could possibly be in.

(2015 update – I’ve been using and repurchasing this for a year now. It’s LOVE!)
