Smashbox Try It Kit, €20. Press sample. Disclosure policy here.
My love for bargains is heightened by my inability to find them. I can root through sale racks all day, I’ll still only come out with last season’s fishnet boob tube and some glittery hairspray.
So, even though I can’t take credit for discovering The Smashbox Try It Kit, I’m still pretty thrilled that it exists and is super, super value. The bundle has bits from a few different ranges, and all of ’em are bestsellers. Today, I’ve rounded them up for five quick-fire reviews.
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara, €22
This is one of the best daytime mascaras I’ve tried. Lashes look separated, lengthened and fluttery. I like something heavier and clumpier for nights out, but this has its place. Natural but not too subtle.
Point two on its suitability for everyday wear; this comes off with no hassle. I couldn’t be bothered fussing over removal on weekdays, so it’s nice that this melts off as soon as I’ve planted my face into a wet cloth.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, €31.50
I’ve got a full review of the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer here, and have gone through tubes of the stuff. It’s a simple enough product, so I reach for it when I want something effective and reliable.
There aren’t any bonkers brand claims. It’s pitched as a good primer, and it is a good primer. It creates a smooth base, so foundation blends well and skin texture issues are blurred.
Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx, €18
I’ve been spolied. I’ve tried the Smashbox Always Sharp liners and now nothing compares. They’re two quid more than the pencils in the Limitless range, but so worth it.
Onyx isn’t bad, but it’s not my cup of tea. Its creamy texture works well if you like that grungy, slept-in look, but I like a clean line. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Out of the bunch, I’d skip on this one.
Smashbox Limitless Lipgloss in Illume, €19
This is the kind of thing I plump for when I want a glossy lip. It’s very comfortable and ranks way down on the sticky scale. Its consistency is thin, worlds away from the gloop you get in lots of glosses.
Illume is a sheer peachy shade with heavy flecks of glitter. In proper Smashbox form, the shimmer looks gorgeous in pictures, like you’ve got a fairy mouth. The dream.
Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer, €19
My blood ran cold when I saw its shade. The dreaded tea beige. Thankfully, it’s not opaque. You can’t see it once it’s blended over the lid.
I’ve got oily lids, so I properly put this through its paces. All in all, it’s a grand little fixer. My shadows didn’t fade or collect in the crease and my liner didn’t transfer. All boxes ticked.

I’m keeping my picks stashed away for the holidays that I’ll (hopefully!) have this year. So handy! Have you got any Smashbox favourites?

I haven’t tried Smashbox yet, but have a primer sitting on my Pinterest board waiting to be bought.
And I love these kits, they are such a great way to discover new brands.
Sadly, i am as incapable of finding a good sale, be it in store or online, as you are…

I think primers are Smashbox’s bread and butter! It does ’em very well, I’m sure you’ll like it!
Becca
I tried that box last year and thought it was a fantastic idea. I’ve repurchased both the primer and mascara and LOVE them! Great starter kit X

My sister is always raving to me about the Smashbox primer. I don’t usually wear them but she can’t live without it. I also love that Smashbox are doing this little kit. It’s such a great way to get to know the brand.

I’ve only tried Smashbox Full Exposure palette and I love it. I received a sample of Full Exposure mascara that comes with the palette but it’s a hit and miss. It’s a good mascara but gives almost no volume to my lashes. Perfect for day time look I guess but I prefer vava-voom kind of lashes.

I’m getting a decent volume hit! Gotta say, I do pile on the layers, which could have something to do with it!

I’ve heard great things about that mascara and I’m planning to pick it up. Love mini sets, they’re a great way of trying new stuff without committing to full sizes.

This is a great idea, wish more brands would do it! I’ve only tried the two Exposure palettes, the first one came with a free sample of the primer and a mini full Exposure mascara, which I liked and promptly lost. I love the primer, haven’t bought a full size but no doubt will at some point! Such a good idea.

Oh I was thinking of trying this lid primer so am glad you’ve posted about it. How do you think it compares to the likes of UD or NARS? Agree that these kids are a genius idea!

I bought this little set and loved every product in it. Photo Finish was my favourite but it’s just a bit expensive. The mascara is also amazing it really adds volume and separates every lash. I love mascaras with huge brushes!

Smashbox is slowly becoming my favorite brand ever! That eyeshadow primer has been a staple for years. The mascara i found rubbish though.
