YSL Forever Light Creator Serum, €77. No press samples featured.
I’ve got a soft spot for fast working serums. An immediate cosmetic effect is always welcome, especially when most skin care takes weeks of application before you get results. The YSL Forever Light Creator Serum is one of those products that gets to work as soon as you apply it.
Now, before we lose the run of ourselves, keep in mind that these immediate effects are temporary. With Forever Light Creator, mineral pigments add an iridescent, pearly sheen. It casts a cool glow that cancels out redness and takes the edge off dark spots or scars. The finish is much more uniform and massively radiant.
Its texture is quite rich for a serum, but not so heavy that it can’t be used as a base for makeup. In fact, that’s all I use it for. For skin that doesn’t need much oil control, it’s a great primer. You get an extra hit of hydration, plus those cosmetic effects mentioned above.
In terms of its performance as a skin-transforming serum, I’m a little less convinced. It hasn’t blown my other serums out of the water, even though it’s more expensive. I have no issues with it as an extra step of hydration, I just rate it much higher an illuminator with bonus skin care properties.
If you tried Estée Lauder Idealist when that was the big thing, I think you’ll like this. It’s got the same comforting feel, with lots of extra glow and sheen. You can’t even tell that I stayed up all night reading about wedding cake disasters and how to avoid them, despite not being near to engaged. Result!
