YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil Review – Crush Me Orange

YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil in Crush Me Orange, €27.00. No press samples featured. Full disclosure policy here.

Picture a dog that’s just been given a whole bag of bones. Running around, wagging, salivating. Now picture trying to get that dog to write a review of those bones. It’s a big ask. That’s me with the new YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oils. I’m overcome with the ermergerds.

Do bare with me, I’ll try to get the gist across somewhere among the gushing.

So, deep breathes, there are eight shades in the collection. You’ve got Drive Me Copper, Oh My Gold, Undress Me, I Rose You, Cherry My Chérie, Peach Me Love, Crush Me Orange, and Pink About me. I plumped for Crush Me Orange, then dragged myself away from the rest.

You’ve got to feel this to really get to grips with it. Its texture isn’t like anything else. Remember yesterday’s review of the Clarins Instant Light Lip Oil? That’s an oil-based gloss, no more, no less. Volupté Tint-In-Oils are oil based too, but in this case the end product actually feels like an oil. It’s thinner, less sticky and provides more hydration.

There’s a bit of a twist with shades here. The colour that lingers once the top layer of gloss has worn off isn’t a dead match for the colour in the tube.  Crush Me Orange applies, no surprises, as a straight-up orange. When this dries down, it stains to a coral pink that’s really, really similar in shade to my Dior Lip Glow in Coral. It looks pretty but feels absolutely weightless.

Another point to note, the sales assistant told me that these settle into different tones on different people. On her skin, Crush Me Orange blended out to hot pink. It’s definitely one to swatch before you buy.

Hydration is much heavier than most lip colours provide, but don’t ditch your lip balm! It’s not intense enough to replace a dedicated treatment product.

The flavour and scent are spot on. It’s tropical, I’m told mango specifically, and doesn’t have an artificial or synthetic note about it.

The packaging’s fancy. It’s got that YSL-typical metal coating, so will get scuffed pretty soon. Still, mine’s young and beautiful for now, plus I really like how the curved applicator coats my lips lickety-split.

It’s totally lovely. I’ve not got a bad word to say about it, and I’m a fecking goldmine of bad words. If you get a YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil in a different shade, let me know how you get on! I feel a collection forming.

This look amazing! Not that I really need a new lip gloss in my collection, but I think Oh My Gold will be winging its way to me soon.

Good choice! I was thinking that I’d get more wear out of a neutral too, but this really caught my eye.

Looks like this is the one to go over the Clarins one! Must give this a look when I’m next in Dublin. I love the Dior lip glows and don’t know if I can be easily swayed away from them! But I suppose the gloss effect is nice with these.
